Diablo Series on Netflix: What We Know About the Animated Show

by RaidDex Team · Published: Oct 25, 2026 · Updated: Oct 25, 2026

Yes, a Diablo series for Netflix is officially in the works: Blizzard and Netflix are developing an animated series set in the world of Diablo. It was announced on September 12, 2026, during the BlizzCon Opening Ceremony. There is no release date, story, studio or cast yet, and Blizzard has not confirmed any link to Diablo V (Diablo 5) (as of October 19, 2026).

What Blizzard has officially said

All of the official information fits into one short paragraph of the Opening Ceremony recap. Blizzard writes that Sanctuary’s darkness is spreading and that it is developing a new animated series with Netflix, “bringing the franchise to a new screen.” More will follow “as the series takes shape.” The news came in Anaheim, in the same part of the show in which Blizzard premiered the first Diablo V teaser. The paragraph ends with:

“Until then, stay awhile... and stay tuned.”

That line is a nod to fans: “Stay awhile and listen” is the best-known phrase of Deckard Cain, who has been part of the series since the first Diablo. Whether Cain appears in the show is not something the line reveals.

What is not known yet

Beyond the announcement, there is no official information. Still open:

  • Release date: not announced, not even a year.
  • Story and setting: it is not known which era of Sanctuary the series covers or whether familiar characters appear.
  • Studio and director: not named.
  • Voice cast: not announced, including for dubbed versions.
  • Scope: number of episodes and seasons unknown.
  • Trailer and images: apart from the joint Netflix and Diablo logo, nothing has been shown.

What the team said in interviews

The series came up several times in BlizzCon interviews, and the team gave nothing away. In the group interview covered by PlayDay on September 15, 2026, the only answer was:

“When the time is right, we’ll talk about more here.”

Asked about the series on the Official Xbox Podcast on September 15, 2026, Tiffany Wat, senior production director on Diablo V, said: “Not today.” After a laugh she added: “I wish that we could.” Nobody has been more specific since. Everything else the team revealed in interviews is collected in our guide Diablo 5 after BlizzCon.

Is the series connected to Diablo 5?

That is open. The series and Diablo V were shown in the same Opening Ceremony, but as separate announcements. Blizzard only describes the series as “set in the world of Diablo” – not as a prequel or companion series to Diablo V.

Diablo V itself is set about 100 years after Diablo IV, in a Sanctuary that Diablo has already conquered (more on the story page). Nobody has said whether the series covers that period, an earlier era or something else entirely. The game is due in spring 2029 according to Blizzard (see release date), and no joint launch of game and series has been announced.

The bigger picture: 30 years of Diablo

The series was part of a large Diablo block for the franchise’s 30th anniversary. According to Blizzard, more than 130 million players worldwide have entered Sanctuary. In the same Opening Ceremony on September 12, 2026, Blizzard announced:

  • Diablo V for spring 2029,
  • the animated series with Netflix,
  • the Amazon class pack for Diablo IV in the first half of 2027,
  • Season of Hell’s Legacy for Diablo IV from September 15, 2026,
  • Diablo IV on Nintendo Switch 2 from September 15, 2026.

The Amazon and the season belong to Diablo IV, not Diablo V – a mix-up that shows up in some reports. More on the rumors and leaks page.

How to spot reliable news

As long as Blizzard and Netflix stay quiet, guesses about release dates, studios or voice actors will keep circulating. Only details from the official Blizzard and Netflix channels are reliable. Interviews with the Diablo V team have not helped so far: the team talks about the game and defers questions about the series to a later date. We add new official details here with a date, and everything about the game is in the Diablo 5 overview.
