Returning from Diablo III
Diablo 5 Monk: What We Know About the Class
The Monk is a confirmed Diablo V (Diablo 5) class: a melee fighter that batters demons with its fists and calls down holy power (as of October 19, 2026). It returns from Diablo III; its skills and resource have not been announced.
What Blizzard has confirmed
According to Blizzard, the Monk brings martial perfection back to Sanctuary: it batters demons to a pulp with its fists and calls down holy power to smite anyone who stands in its path. That makes it the melee class among the three revealed so far.
Senior game director Joe Shely summed it up for Esquire: “And Monk, you know, who doesn’t like pulverizing demons with their fist? It’s an up-close melee class.”

Origin: Diablo III
The Monk was one of the five base classes of Diablo III, released in 2012. Art director John Mueller calls the Monk and the Demon Hunter “really established fantasies” and offers a comparison: “If you’re playing as Batman, it might be a new Batman suit, but it’s still Batman.” The core stays, while the execution is rebuilt with today’s technology.
In the group interview, according to PlayDay, the team placed its classes on a scale from dark to light. The Monk sits on the light side, the Plague Knight on the dark one.

The panel sketch
The black-and-white panel sketch shows the Monk with a shaved head and a circlet, heavy prayer beads draped over neck and shoulder, and a bare upper body. The forearms are wrapped, one hand is clenched into a fist, and bright streaks of light flash down from above. Again: concept art, not an in-game image.

For comparison: the Diablo III Monk
In Diablo III, the Monk was a fast melee fighter that used Spirit as its resource and empowered itself and its group with mantras. This is a comparison with the earlier game, not an announcement: for Diablo V, no resource, mantras or weapon types have been confirmed. Only fist fighting and holy power are certain.
Not announced yet
Still open (as of October 19, 2026): skills, resource, skill tree, weapons, class mechanic and group role. Blizzard promises more on combat, progression and builds, with regular updates from 2027. The other classes are in the class overview, and the combat philosophy is on the gameplay page.
