Diablo V
Diablo 5 Multiplayer: Co-op, Offline, Crossplay and Trading
According to senior game director Joe Shely, you can play Diablo V (Diablo 5) solo or with friends – and that goes for all of its content (as of October 19, 2026). Offline mode, crossplay, couch co-op and trading, however, have not been announced.
What the developers have said
“Like Diablo 4, it is a game that you can play solo or multiplayer, however you please, and you should be able to play all of the content with your friends.”
“We’ll have more details to share about multiplayer as we move forward.”
“And sometimes automatic scaling can get in the way of that feeling, which is so core to it, and that’s why this is a really important question. And so, we’re going to take a somewhat different approach to that in Diablo 5.”

Level scaling: deliberately different from Diablo IV
When Diablo IV launched in June 2023, monsters largely scaled with your level. That is exactly what the team wants to change: according to Joe Shely, automatic scaling can undermine the feeling of getting noticeably stronger with each level. So Diablo V will “take a somewhat different approach.”
Shely did not explain what that approach looks like. It still matters for co-op, because scaling shapes how well characters of different levels can play together. Nothing has been announced on that front.

Is Diablo 5 an MMO?
Blizzard does not describe Diablo V as an MMO. The team talks about a game you play solo or with friends, and executive producer Matt Zitterman told GameSpot that Diablo remains, at its core, an isometric action RPG – something the team is not looking to change.
Whether there will be large group content, clans or a marketplace has not been announced. As of October 19, 2026, no developer has said anything about trading, even if some reports claim otherwise; we check those in our rumor check. What is known about loot and gear is on our items page, and the differences from its predecessor are in our comparison with Diablo IV.
