What it’s about
The heroes have failed, Sanctuary has fallen and Diablo has won. For seven years the Lord of Terror has ruled from the throne of Westmarch, reshaping the world to his will. You are the Heir to Westmarch – on the run, mysteriously bound to Diablo and without a single safe town. Your only refuge is a caravan of survivors.
The road to release
Spring 2029 is roughly 28 months away, counting to early March 2029. Blizzard has not named an exact day.

What’s new
What Diablo V does differently from its predecessors – based on everything Blizzard has shown so far.
01
A caravan instead of towns
Every town is gone. Your base is a train of wagons and survivors that travels with you and grows.
02
A world that keeps changing
Overworld and dungeons are procedural. When you return, terrain, landmarks, monsters and loot can differ.
03
Items in the spirit of Diablo II
Runes and runewords, sets, a grid inventory with large items and the belt slot return.
04
The Plague Knight
The first new class: heavily armored, spreads disease and consumes it for power.
05
Character and class kept apart
Who your Heir to Westmarch is no longer depends on your class – more freedom than in any Diablo before.
06
Solo or with friends
According to senior game director Joe Shely, all content is meant to be playable with friends.

01
Diablo has won
The heroes failed and Sanctuary fell. For Diablo it is only a stepping stone to the Heavens.
02
The Heir to Westmarch
Your character – on the run and mysteriously bound to Diablo.
03
The Lord of Terror
Diablo is there from the first moment – a fully drawn character, neither redeemable nor misunderstood.
04
Three stories in one world
The world tells of the golden age, of Diablo’s takeover and of how he is reshaping Sanctuary.
05
Dread Commanders and cults
Corrupted humans rule in Diablo’s name and warp the land, each in their own way.
06
About 100 years after Diablo IV
When the game begins, Diablo has ruled the Western Continent for seven years.
Voices from the development team
“Diablo V is going to launch with more classes than ever before. And I don’t just mean more classes than another Diablo game at ship. I mean more classes total.”

“Diablo is Diablo. He’s the Lord of Terror. He’s not redeemable. He’s not misunderstood.”
More on the page „Story“ →
“While Diablo V will continue to feature some DEX (moment-to-moment execution) mechanics, on balance the game will be an INT/STR game (planning and investment). We are designing to the core tenet of ARPGs that any challenge can be overcome with the right build.”
