Diablo 5 Demon Hunter: What We Know About the Class

The Demon Hunter is a confirmed Diablo V (Diablo 5) class: an agile ranged fighter with twin crossbows, returning from Diablo III (as of October 19, 2026). Blizzard has not shown its skills, resource or skill tree yet.

What Blizzard has confirmed

In its panel article, Blizzard describes the Demon Hunter as a hunter of Hell’s forces: it fights with twin crossbows, strikes from the shadows and leaps across the battlefield to annihilate its prey. That makes it the ranged fighter among the three revealed classes.

Senior game director Joe Shely added in an interview with Esquire: “A Demon Hunter has light armor and twin crossbows. They’re extremely agile, pinning demons against walls.” Light armor, lots of mobility and demons pinned to walls – that is how the team sketches the class.

Origin: Diablo III

The Demon Hunter was one of the five base classes of Diablo III, released in 2012. In Diablo V, Shely says, it should feel “familiar but also new at the same time”: “It’s a new representation of the class. It’s going to be different, but you’re still going to have twin crossbows.”

Art director John Mueller explains the return by pointing to the time that has passed: technology was different in 2012, and with everything the team has learned since Diablo IV, it wants to deliver the best version of the class in 2029.

The panel sketch

During the panel, Blizzard showed a black-and-white sketch for each class. The Demon Hunter wears a hood and a billowing cloak over light armor and holds a crossbow in an outstretched hand. The pose looks like a mid-air leap. The sketch is concept art, not an in-game image.

For comparison: the Diablo III Demon Hunter

In Diablo III, the Demon Hunter used two resources, Hatred and Discipline, and fought with crossbows and bows as well as traps and sentries. This is a comparison with the earlier game: whether any of it carries over to Diablo V has not been announced. Only the twin crossbows and the agile playstyle are confirmed.

Not announced yet

Blizzard plans to show more on combat, progression and builds, with regular updates from 2027. What is known about the other classes is in the class overview, and the basics of combat are on the gameplay page.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Demon Hunter playable in Diablo 5?
Yes. Blizzard revealed it on September 12, 2026, as one of the first three classes, alongside the Monk and the Plague Knight.
Which weapons does the Diablo 5 Demon Hunter use?
Twin crossbows are confirmed. Whether it can also use bows or other weapons has not been announced.
Does the Demon Hunter have Hatred and Discipline again?
Not announced. In Diablo III, Hatred and Discipline were its resources; Blizzard has not named a resource for Diablo V (as of October 19, 2026).
Do I play the same Demon Hunter as in Diablo III?
Nothing suggests that. In Diablo V you play the Heir to Westmarch, about 100 years after Diablo IV, and you choose your class independently of the character. More on the story page.
