Why WoW: Forever runs on the modern WoW codebase
WoW: Forever is built on the current World of Warcraft codebase rather than a separate Classic branch. Frank Williams explains that since 2019 the Classic team had to keep porting changes from the live game, such as security and graphics updates. Sharing the code means those improvements, including many performance gains from other WoW teams, now come along automatically.
The game is also data-driven, so designers can tune features through data instead of hard-coded logic. Aggrend points to talents, which were hard to change in Season of Discovery and can now be rearranged easily. What else changed is covered on our differences from Classic page.
Zone boundaries and crowded areas
The world is split into partitions covering single zones or small groups of zones, which is why players vanished when looking across a zone border in beta, for example at the exit of Orgrimmar. Williams says improvements in the final beta days all but removed this, with more fixes coming at launch. Aggrend is clear that there will still be boundaries and occasional world refreshes.

Blizzard can keep adjusting which zones are linked and how many players each zone holds. At launch the team expects starting zones like Durotar to be packed, with big city fights later, so the grouping should look different a month in. For large PvP battles, the state at the end of beta is what to expect at launch.

Community, groups and rulesets
The system tries to keep putting players together with the same people so communities form. In the first beta week it was too aggressive and moved players constantly. At launch, joining a group shows a prompt with a time window and players move when they choose. Guild members not in a group end up in the same world as their guild. Client language influences who players meet and can be changed in settings, and players who join years later should still find a community of similar size.

PvE and PvP rulesets stay separate at launch, mainly to protect the economy. If Roleplay or Roleplay PvP ever ran short on players, Blizzard could link auction houses or allow shared instances, but nothing is planned. Faction balance applies per ruleset and targets 50/50. Ruleset details are in our rulesets news.
Oceania, ideas and the next episode
Oceanic players share a region with North America but play on hardware in Australia. A local Australian day-night cycle is possible, but switching groups would then flip day and night abruptly, and the team wants feedback. Ideas mentioned without firm plans include armies of 80 to 120 players, proximity voice chat, and new events such as fishing tournaments and world bosses. There is no episode during launch week; the next one, about lore, arrives in two weeks.
