Key facts at a glance

  • Series finale: Blizzard's last class deep dive for World of Warcraft: Forever covers the Paladin.
  • New for all Paladins: Holy Strike (level 6), the tanking Seal of Fury (level 10) and baseline Consecration at level 20.
  • Holy: Holy Shock moves to the 21-point gold medal with a 10-second cooldown (was 30). The new 31-point talent Light's Vigil adds group healing.
  • Protection: Templar's Bulwark adds a real survival cooldown.
  • Retribution: Twist of Light brings back Seal Twisting in a more forgiving form.

Baseline: talents, Seals and Judgements

Talents open at level 10 with the familiar structure. One-point gold medal talents sit at 11, 21 and 31 points, now joined by a new 16-point gold medal. You change talents, including Legacy talents, at a class trainer in a major city. Dual Specialization unlocks at level 40. Key baseline changes:

  • Holy Strike (new, level 6): instant Holy damage based on 50% of weapon damage plus a bonus that grows with each rank.
  • Judgement no longer consumes your active Seal.
  • Seal of Fury (new, level 10): constant bonus Holy damage per swing, which favors fast weapons for tanking, plus an absorb shield worth 50% of that damage. Its Judgement taunts from 10 yards, while Growl and Taunt reach only 5.
  • Consecration is baseline at level 20. It deals moderate damage to the first four enemies and very low damage to the rest, matching the Warrior's Thunder Clap.
  • Lay on Hands cooldown drops to 20 minutes from 1 hour.
  • Salvation is no longer a Blessing. The raid version becomes Mass Salvation in a future beta build.
  • Resistance auras affect all raid members within 30 yards.
  • Classic-style Seal Twisting no longer exists baseline.

Holy

Holy Shock moves from the 31-point to the 21-point gold medal, and its cooldown drops from 30 to 10 seconds. The new 31-point talent Light's Vigil (1.5-second cast, 30-second duration) makes the next Holy Shock on its target skip the cooldown:

World of Warcraft: Forever: ruins on Mount Hyjal at dusk
For raids, the Paladin preview adds group healing with Light's Vigil and auras that cover the whole raid.
  • On an enemy, it deals extra Holy damage and refunds 75% of its mana cost.
  • On an ally, it heals their whole party.
  • Set up on several parties, it lets back-to-back Holy Shocks heal an entire raid quickly.

Other new talents:

  • Voice of Truth (11 points): 6 seconds of immunity to Silence and Interrupt.
  • Reverence: up to 30% Spirit-based mana regen while casting.
  • Divine Precision: up to 18% hit with Holy spells, since plate healing gear won't carry hit.
  • Consecrated Ground: up to 10% more Holy damage against the first four enemies in Consecration.

Divine Favor is now the 16-point gold medal, and Illumination's refund drops to 50% of base cost. Together these support hybrid "Shockadin" builds.

Protection

Templar's Bulwark (21 points, 5-minute cooldown) absorbs damage equal to 100% of maximum health for 8 seconds but applies Forbearance. Holy Shield now requires it.

World of Warcraft: Forever: a dark throne hall inside a dungeon
In dungeons and raids, Protection Paladins now tank with Seal of Fury and Templar's Bulwark.
  • Improved Seal of Fury (11 points) returns mana whenever a Seal of Fury shield is consumed.
  • Swift Judgement (16 points) resets Judgement, handy after a resisted taunt.
  • Redoubt gives a chance on being hit to gain up to 20% Block Chance.
  • Improved Righteous Fury now reduces damage taken by up to 6%.
  • Reckoning can also trigger from blocks.

Blessing of Sanctuary and Improved Concentration Aura are removed, and Blessing of Kings becomes baseline.

Retribution

The new 31-point talent Twist of Light cuts Seal mana costs by 20%. Replacing a damage-dealing Seal leaves an Echo, so your next melee attack gets the benefits of both Seals. Seal Twisting stays, just without the tight timing windows. Other changes:

  • Sacred Arbiter (16 points): Holy Strike deals 20% more damage and refreshes every Judgement on the target, including other Paladins'.
  • Sanctified Judgement: refunds up to 60% of a Seal's cost.
  • Vengeance: now lasts 30 seconds and stacks to 9% damage.
  • Repentance: moves to 21 points.
  • Pursuit of Justice: grants 15% movement speed.
  • Instrument of Law: makes Hammer of Wrath instant.
