What Rebel Wolves showed
Community Bulletin Board #11, published on 28 August 2026, is the first detailed look at how Coen grows stronger. It comes with three character-screen screenshots — and those say considerably more than the accompanying text.
The short version: three skill trees, one shared experience bar, and abilities that cost time on top of skill points. Anyone who understood Dawnwalker as a game about scarce days and nights can already guess why that last part matters most.
Three disciplines, two times of day
Coen does not rely on his sword alone. By day he can explore the witchcraft Anca taught him. By night his vampiric nature awakens, unlocking a darker and more instinctive set of powers. Both paths can be developed independently or combined.
Vampirism — night only
Vampiric abilities awaken at night and draw on health and corruption. The deeper Coen sinks into corruption, the more he unlocks — and most of these powers demand a sacrifice.
The screenshot shows Nourishing Blood (night only): blood drinking restores more health, across three ranks worth +10%, +20% and +40% health restoration.
Swordmastery — day and night
Swordmastery emphasises precision, timing and combat fundamentals. As the tree expands you can specialise in defensive resilience or relentless offensive combinations that turn every successful action into the next opportunity — regardless of the time of day.
From the screenshot: Sustained Focus raises the number of activation charges from two to as many as four, and can have Coen start every fight with a full charge.
Witchcraft — day only
Witchcraft is available during the day only. It provides offensive and defensive spells that reshape the battlefield: crowd control, damage over time, buffs and debuffs. Rebel Wolves calls it a demanding discipline that rewards players willing to pursue forbidden magic.
In the image: Witchcraft Mastery with +15%, +25% and +40% damage for witchcraft abilities, plus extra damage at first a 50 and later a 100 percent chance.
Experience, levels, skill points
Coen earns experience in four ways:
- defeating enemies and powerful creatures
- completing quests and objectives
- discovering hidden locations and secrets
- overcoming special encounters and bosses
Accumulated experience raises Coen level, and every level grants skill points. Crucially — and this was the community question of the month: there is one shared experience bar and one type of skill point. You can spend them across all three trees as you see fit, so points earned by day can go straight into vampire abilities.
The second currency: time
Abilities cost skill points and time. Time represents the effort of studying a technique, deciphering arcane knowledge or deepening the bond with the curse. In the screenshots every rank lists exactly that pair: a point symbol and an hourglass — two of each on the later ranks.
With roughly 30 days and 30 nights of eight time units each, that is the real point of the system: getting stronger costs time you cannot spend elsewhere. Rebel Wolves does not explicitly state that the hourglass refers to the 30-day frame, but the symbolism points that way.
What levelling alone does not unlock
Levels are not enough. New abilities need a source as well:
- Swordmastery: manuals left across the world by soldiers and bandits — or bought from fencers you meet on the road.
- Witchcraft: magic manuals from ancient ruins and haunted places, or from the wares of other practitioners.
- Vampirism: no books, but corruption. The stronger powers require feeding on blood and embracing the curse.
What else the screenshots reveal
- Every tree is split in two: perks (passive improvements) on the left, abilities (active skills) on the right.
- Ultimate perks sit at the bottom and are mutually exclusive — only one can be learnt per tree.
- They stay locked until 35 points sit in that tree. The swordmastery and witchcraft shots read „Spend to unlock: 1/35“ and „0/35“.
- Book icons mark nodes that require a manual — they appear in witchcraft and swordmastery, while the vampirism tree uses fang and skull icons for corruption tiers instead.
- Learning happens in one place: „Go to any road shrine to learn“ — that is where points are actually spent.
- Almost everything has multiple ranks, shown by the rows of diamonds beneath each node.
- A question mark with a padlock in the witchcraft and vampirism trees hints at content the game reveals later.
Caveat: all numbers come from a pre-release build. Costs, percentages and the 35-point threshold may still change before launch.
What this means for builds
Three things are already visible, before anyone has played it:
- Hybrids are allowed, but not free. A shared point pool means every point spent on witchcraft is a point missing from vampirism. Breadth costs depth.
- The 35-point threshold is the first hard commitment. If you want an ultimate perk, you largely commit to one tree.
- Time is part of the build. If learning costs time units, the question is not only which perk, but which perk is worth a night.
Once the game is out we will build the skill data here and follow up with concrete builds for swordsmen, witches and vampire hunters.
