Ciara Berkeley
Ciri, English version
The Witcher IV
In The Witcher 4 you play Ciri, Geralt’s adopted daughter – for the first time as a trained witcher with cat’s eyes. According to CD PROJEKT RED she is faster and more agile than Geralt and fights with a sword, an enchanted chain and magic. Her English voice is Ciara Berkeley (as of October 30, 2026).

Ciri is at the centre because the team wanted it that way from the start. Story Director Tomasz Marchewka said at the reveal in December 2024 that “from the very beginning we knew it had to be Ciri”: a complex character with a lot left to tell, familiar and fresh at the same time. In the official press release, Game Director Sebastian Kalemba said it “just felt natural” and that Ciri deserves it.
CD PROJEKT RED knew the call was not an easy one. Narrative Director Philipp Weber told VGC the team knew it “could be controversial for some people”, since Geralt had been the protagonist of three games. The decision, he said, was made a very long time ago. One upside in Weber’s view: it lets the studio honour the ending Geralt got in Witcher 3 and Blood and Wine. In August 2026 Weber wrote on X that he, too, had wanted Geralt at first – but that Geralt will always have an important role.
Executive Producer Małgorzata Mitręga describes Ciri as open, curious and drawn to people, which she says opens up uncharted territory in storytelling. Asked about the criticism, she said the best answer will be the game itself. What this means for the plot is covered on the story page.

“We’re kicking off a brand-new Witcher saga, this time with Ciri as the heart of the story!”
“In this game we want to explore what it means to truly become a witcher by following Ciri on her Path.”
“She’s familiar, but at the same time she’s fresh. And she’s simply a badass.”
“She’s faster, more agile … but you can still tell that she was raised by Geralt, right?”
“I think we definitely knew it could be controversial for some people because of course, in the previous three Witcher games Geralt was the protagonist…”
“a natural successor to Geralt, embarking on her own journey to become a professional monster slayer”
CD PROJEKT RED has not shown real gameplay yet (as of October 30, 2026). The reveal trailer is pre-rendered, but the studio says it uses models and assets from the game; the 2025 tech demo was explicitly not gameplay. What we can say comes from those two videos and from interviews.
Ciri is meant to feel different from Geralt. Małgorzata Mitręga says she is faster and more agile, but you can tell Geralt raised her. She will not be as overpowered as at the end of Witcher 3: between then and now, “something totally happened in between.” The studio is not saying what.
In the trailer Ciri fights with a sword, a chain and magic. She enchants the chain with fire; Kalemba says it is a nod to the very first Witcher trailer. Ciri is also a powerful Source who can drain energy from the elements and turn it into strong spells. Before the fight she drinks a potion that Kalemba describes as a poison only witchers can prepare.
The AnsweRED podcast on animation (March 2026) adds that Ciri’s sword animations are sped up by around 20 to 30 percent and that she can cast spells while moving. A combat system, skill trees or witcher Signs have not been presented yet. Details under gameplay.

As of October 30, 2026. The trailer is pre-rendered; a lot can still change in the game before release.
The most striking detail in the trailer is Ciri’s cat’s eyes. They are the visible sign of the mutations a witcher goes through in the Trial of the Grasses. According to reports on an IGN interview, Sebastian Kalemba confirmed that Ciri has gone through the trial. In the same conversation he said: “We want to put player agency in the center.”
This is new because in the books and in Witcher 3 Ciri was trained by witchers at Kaer Morhen but never underwent the mutations. That is how Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and the games tell it; the comparison is ours, not CD PROJEKT RED’s. When and how Ciri passed the trial, the studio is not saying – Mitręga only says that “something totally happened in between.”
Kalemba promises that players will live through Ciri’s path: the word “become” is part of the goal, and that journey is what he wants people to experience. Which Witcher 3 ending fits this is covered under Witcher 3 ending.

In the reveal trailer and the tech demo Ciri is older and tougher than in Witcher 3. She wears a hood, the sword over her shoulder, her familiar facial scar and, of course, the cat’s eyes. The tech demo images also show her in travelling clothes riding her mare Kelpie.
In 2025 there was an online debate about whether CD PROJEKT RED had changed Ciri’s face. Media reported that the studio denied it. We could not check the exact wording in any primary source, so we list that statement as unconfirmed. What is certain: the trailer is pre-rendered, and CD PROJEKT RED says the tech demo was not the finished game. How Ciri looks at release will only be clear from the game itself. Images are in the gallery.

The trailer has a German audio track, but CD PROJEKT RED has not named the German voice actress (as of October 30, 2026). All other voices are listed under characters.
For newcomers, the essentials as told in the novels and the earlier games: Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon is the princess of Cintra, bound to Geralt by destiny since before she was born. She carries the Elder Blood, an elven heritage that lets her travel through space and time. The elves call her Zireael, the swallow – a name she also uses as an alias. Geralt takes her in as his adopted daughter; at Kaer Morhen the witchers teach her to fight, and Yennefer teaches her magic.
In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Ciri is on the run from the Wild Hunt, which wants her power. Geralt searches for her across the North, and in the end she faces the White Frost. Depending on your choices she becomes a witcher, Empress of Nilfgaard, or does not return. The Witcher 4 picks up with Ciri as a witcher – which ending that implies is explained under Witcher 3 ending, and the order of the stories is in the timeline.
If you want to catch up on Ciri’s story, The Witcher 3 has been available as a remastered version since September 29, 2026. RaidDex has its own Witcher 3 database with a map and planner.
