The 2028 window and the road there

The Witcher 4's target release window is 2028. CD PROJEKT RED gave the window in its first-half 2026 report as part of a wider plan: one large Witcher release every year until the fourth game. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered launched on September 29, 2026, Songs of the Past follows in 2027 as the third full expansion for The Witcher 3, and The Witcher 4 then opens a new saga. Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski called it "the biggest, boldest and most ambitious project" in the studio's history. Our release date page tracks every timing update.

Development status: full production with 519 developers

The Witcher 4 is the studio's biggest project. At the end of July 2026, 519 of CD PROJEKT RED's 1,045 developers were on the team. Asked about progress on the half-year earnings call, Nowakowski said the game is in full production, meaning the team knows what kind of game it is making and is filling it with content. The studio does not plan to announce its internal milestones one by one.

He also clarified what "running on every platform" means: the current build can be launched on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, which does not imply a full game with all its content yet. Engine and platform details live on our technology and platforms pages.

What is officially known so far

The Witcher 4 was revealed at The Game Awards on December 12, 2024. The Cinematic Reveal Trailer shows Ciri as the witcher and protagonist, facing the Bauk in the village of Stromford. In June 2025 an Unreal Engine 5 tech demo followed, running on a PlayStation 5 at 60 fps and showing the kingdom of Kovir and the port town of Valdrest; CD PROJEKT RED stressed it was not gameplay. There has been no new trailer since. The next official updates are most likely to come with upcoming earnings reports; the studio has not given a date for new material.
