The Witcher IV
The Witcher 4 System Requirements: What PC Will I Need?
There are no official system requirements for The Witcher 4 yet – CD PROJEKT RED has published neither minimum nor recommended specs (as of October 30, 2026). All that is known is the technical foundation: Unreal Engine 5, ray tracing, a 60 fps target on consoles and path-traced forests using NVIDIA technology.

Are there system requirements yet?
No. CD PROJEKT RED has not published PC requirements for The Witcher 4 – no CPU, graphics card, memory or storage. There is not even a Steam or GOG page where they could appear. Lists of “minimum” and “recommended” specs circulating online are estimates or made up.
That is normal for a game that will not launch before 2028. Development is in full-scale production, but optimizing for individual hardware tiers comes towards the end. Until then, all we can say is what technology the game is built on and what the studio has said about frame rate and graphics. We sum up both here, add Cyberpunk 2077’s official requirements as a point of reference, and explain how to check your own PC.

What is known about the technology
“Console first” and the 60 fps target
One statement from Charles Tremblay matters most when it comes to how powerful a PC will need to be. CD PROJEKT RED’s VP of technology told Digital Foundry in June 2025 that the studio always used to develop for PC first, push the graphics and then scale down for consoles. That caused a lot of problems in the past. This time the team wanted “more of a console first development” – and to aim for 60 fps rather than going back to 30.
So the consoles form the baseline. A PlayStation 5 is roughly comparable to a mid-range PC from 2020; by that measure it seems likely that The Witcher 4 will not be a game for high-end machines only. That is our assessment, not a statement from the studio. There should be headroom, though: according to the report on the interview, CDPR plans to scale the graphics up for high-end PCs, in a form still to be decided.
Tremblay also stressed how much work lies ahead. The tech demo had no combat, a lot of things did not work yet, and it was too early to say whether the team would hit its goal. So the 60 fps target is not a promise either.

Ray tracing, path tracing and NVIDIA
For the graphics extras, CD PROJEKT RED is once again working closely with NVIDIA, as it did on Cyberpunk 2077. At GDC in March 2026, NVIDIA announced it was working with the studio to integrate a new foliage system based on RTX Mega Geometry into The Witcher 4. It selectively updates the level of detail of vegetation, saving memory and improving performance. Rendering engineer Cezary Bella said it would bring fully path-traced forests to the world of The Witcher.
Path tracing, a particularly demanding form of ray tracing, was reserved for the most powerful graphics cards in Cyberpunk 2077 as “RT Overdrive.” It seems likely to serve as an optional tier for high-end PCs in The Witcher 4 as well – again, that is our inference, not information from the studio.
According to the press release, the December 2024 reveal trailer was made in a custom build of Unreal Engine 5 on a then-unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics card. It was pre-rendered, so it says nothing about what a home PC can do in real time. The June 2025 tech demo, by contrast, ran in real time on a PS5 – with ray-traced lighting, using hardware ray tracing according to Epic.

Official CD PROJEKT RED specs for Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty from update 2.0: 64-bit Windows 10, DirectX 12 and 70 GB on an SSD (NVMe from ultra) in every tier. Only a reference for the hardware the studio last asked for in a big RPG – the table says nothing about The Witcher 4. Everything about the game under Cyberpunk 2077.

How to check your PC
When CD PROJEKT RED publishes the requirements, you will want to know quickly where your machine stands. This is what you need, and how to find it on Windows 10 and 11:
- CPU and memory: open Settings, then System and About. It lists your processor, installed RAM and whether Windows is a 64-bit system.
- Graphics card and video memory: open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc, go to the Performance tab and select GPU. It shows the model and the “dedicated GPU memory,” i.e. VRAM.
- DirectX version: press Windows+R, type “dxdiag” and confirm. The first page shows the DirectX version, and the Display tab shows the graphics card again.
- SSD or hard drive: in Task Manager under Performance, each drive shows its type (SSD or HDD). You can see free space in File Explorer under This PC.
- Drivers: get the latest graphics driver directly from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel.
On a Mac, you will find the details in the Apple menu under “About This Mac.” A Mac version of The Witcher 4 has not been announced, though.
Is it worth upgrading now?
Our advice: no, not because of The Witcher 4. New graphics cards and CPUs will arrive before the 2028 window, prices will change, and nobody knows today what hardware the game will really need. Upgrading now means buying on a hunch.
It makes more sense to wait until CD PROJEKT RED announces the official requirements. Until then, a good yardstick is how well your machine handles current Unreal Engine 5 games or Cyberpunk 2077. As soon as there is news, we will add it to this page. More on platforms in general under platforms, and on the engine under tech.
What the developers say about the tech
“We always do PC and we push and then we try to scale down, but then we had so many problems in the past that we tried to see, okay, this time around we really want to be more of a console first development. … We really wanted to aim for 60 fps and not go back to 30 fps.”
“We can’t wait for players to experience this level of detail in The Witcher 4. Using the in-development Mega Geometry foliage technology, we can bring fully path traced forests to the world of The Witcher.”
“This is a tech demo, not the whole gameplay loop is implemented, there’s no combat, there’s a lot of things that don’t work, but still, the ambition is set, so this is where we want to aim for The Witcher 4. It’s too early to say if we manage to nail it, but we’ll work as hard as we can to make it for sure.”
