The Witcher 4 Trailers: Reveal Trailer, Tech Demo and Every Video
The Witcher 4 has two major videos: the nearly six-minute Cinematic Reveal Trailer from The Game Awards 2024 and the 14-minute Unreal Engine 5 tech demo from June 2025. Neither shows actual gameplay; CD PROJEKT RED has not released a gameplay trailer yet (as of October 30, 2026).

What happens in the reveal trailer
The trailer tells a short, self-contained Witcher story. It opens with a father saying goodbye to his daughter: the people of a remote village are preparing a girl for a traditional ritual sacrifice. For generations they have appeased a monster this way. According to CD PROJEKT RED, the village is called Stromford and lies in the north; the girl is Mioni, and the monster is a Bauk.
Ciri, cat-eyed and a trained witcher, has taken the contract to kill the monster. She also wants to save the girl, and in doing so clashes with the superstitions and prejudices of the villagers. In the fight she shows new tools: a chain she enchants with a fire spell – a nod to the very first Witcher trailer, according to Kalemba – a potion that is really a poison only witchers can brew, and magic she draws from the elements as a Source.
The ending delivers the painful lesson CDPR names as the heart of the trailer: monsters come in all forms. The closing lines are: “To go to the gods…” – “Gods? There are no gods here… There are only monsters.” That line also gives the song its title. At the very end you briefly hear Geralt, voiced by Doug Cockle according to CDPR.
In the breakdown, Kalemba stresses that the trailer shows a real quest from the game and that there are choices and consequences: Mioni can be saved. More on the plot under story, and on the characters under characters.

Pre-rendered, not played
The reveal trailer is not gameplay. Right at the start it states that it was pre-rendered in Unreal Engine 5 on an unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU. According to the press release, it uses the same tech The Witcher 4 is built on, with assets and models from the game itself. It is meant to give a cinematic look at the kind of experience the game aspires to – not at how it plays.
The tech demo is explicitly not gameplay either, but for a different reason: it ran in real time on a PS5, yet showed technology rather than the finished game. CD PROJEKT RED said it “isn’t gameplay of The Witcher 4 itself” but a look at the technological groundwork. There was no combat in it.
Watching it: the main upload of the trailer on The Witcher channel (youtube.com/watch?v=54dabgZJ5YA) is age-restricted on YouTube and will not play embedded. That is why we show the identical upload from CD PROJEKT RED DACH above. The English breakdown (youtube.com/watch?v=3FIFslGpiZA) is age-restricted too; the DACH upload above is the same video.

What the tech demo shows
The tech demo opened the State of Unreal keynote in Orlando on June 3, 2025, live on stage. Ciri rides Kelpie through the rugged mountains and dense forests of Kovir to the bustling port town of Valdrest. According to CDPR, Kovir makes its very first appearance in the series in The Witcher 4. Along the way Ciri is caught up in a dangerous monster contract, and a manticore appears in the demo.
The focus was technology that CDPR and Epic are developing together:
- Nanite Foliage: dense forests with individual branches swaying in the wind.
- Unreal Animation Framework and Mass: hundreds of people at the Valdrest market, each moving in their own way.
- Fast Geometry Streaming: the world loads quickly as you ride.
- ML Deformer: Kelpie’s muscles move realistically.
- MetaHuman and Chaos Cloth: faces and clothing.
Kalemba describes one scene in more detail on the PlayStation Blog: at the market, Ciri bumps into a man carrying a crate of apples. He loses his footing, the apples roll down the hill and trigger unscripted chain reactions – children run to grab one, pigs look for an early lunch. More on the technology under tech, and on the places under locations.

Platige Image itself shows how the duel was made in a short motion capture breakdown.
There was no new The Witcher 4 trailer in 2026; the only new video is the gamescom message. Whether the game will appear at The Game Awards on December 10, 2026, has not been announced – we track the latest under release date.
What CD PROJEKT RED says about the videos
“We’re kicking off a brand-new Witcher saga, this time with Ciri as the heart of the story! … This trailer is a taste of both that, and just how dark and grounded the world of The Witcher can be.”
“This isn’t gameplay of The Witcher 4, but we still wanted to incorporate CD Projekt Red’s signature storytelling into the tech demo, showing our new protagonist Ciri in the midst of a dangerous monster contract.”
