While travelling near Tantari, I stumbled into a rather interesting situation.

Enter the cave
A seemingly abandoned cave... Maybe I should take a look inside?

Investigate the cave using Focus Mode
Judging by the mess I found inside, there was some fight in the cave. I should look around.

Search the camp for items from the cave
The soldiers reached the nearby cave and found something worth my attention inside. I should look for it.

Find the cave mentioned in the letter
The letter from Xanthe mentioned some cave near the camp. I should try to find it.

Search for the nest near Tantari
According to the crudely drawn map I found in the cave, there should be another silver shard in the monster's nest somewhere near Tantari.

Search for a sword shard near Tantari
If the map I found was accurate, I should look for one of the shards someone near Tantari.
Possible endings
Depending on your choices the quest ends differently – with different rewards. A playthrough only reaches one of the endings.
Ending 1 (spoiler)
I was able to retrieve a silver shard. I also learnt that Xanthe was interested in it.
Failed (spoiler)
In the end, I never followed through on this.
