The Moon Goddess and a Bard, part 1

It was magic that saved him. When the Battle of Arfderydd was over and his master was killed, the bard ran into the forest. The echoes of death followed him and broke his mind. For the first time in his life, he couldn’t hear the music. Every note and sound had soured. He would’ve died on that day, with a shattered heart. But magic found him – and later he learned to wield it like no other.

The Moon Goddess and a Bard, part 2

Her name was Arianrhod and she came to him in a dream. She stepped down from the Moon and found him in that forest, a broken, pitiful man. She took him into her arms and allowed his tears to pour over her silver dress. She held the bard for a long time, cradling him like a newborn. And all that time she whispered into his ear words of magic – and power beyond imagination.

The Moon Goddess and a Bard, part 3

He was a hungry student. He sipped Arianrhod’s every secret, letting it flow through his mind. The madness that had overtaken him earlier began to subside and the music returned, but this time as an ever-expanding vortex of knowledge. The Lady of the Moon saw that her gift would not be squandered. In fact, she had chosen the bard because she knew that he had the capacity to take magic and evolve it, shape it into something new.

The Moon Goddess and a Bard, part 4

And thus, Arianrhod’s work was complete, the bard’s mind – restored. The dream was over and it was time for him to return to the world of the living. When he woke up, he was lying naked on a forest glen, reborn. With a knowing smile that never quite disappeared from his lips until the day of his death, the man stepped forth. He had a grand task ahead. And in no more than a month he proved that Arianrhod’s gift would not go to waste – on his travels, he performed astounding feats of magic. His spells were not only powerful, but their effects lingered far longer than those created by any sorcerer before him. Soon, the world would learn his name. Myrddin Wyllt. Myrdin Emrys.
