Best Class in ArcheAge Chronicles: Which Class Fits Your Playstyle?

by RaidDex Team · Published: Nov 3, 2026 · Updated: Nov 4, 2026

The best class in ArcheAge Chronicles is the one whose playstyle you enjoy. There is still no reliable ranking in Early Access. Balance keeps shifting. For launch, XLGAMES clearly buffed the Warhammer, turned the Longbow’s Fire Arrow into a skill of its own with a cooldown, shifted the Wavesword toward magic, adjusted the Hatchet and toned down Wall of Fire. A dedicated combat team keeps tuning stamina, hit stun and movement speed throughout Early Access. So instead of a tier list, we sort the four classes by what they do well.

Quick answer: which class for whom?

You want to …Our pickWhy
start easyBerserkerHighest Constitution (26) and Endurance (25), blocks with Shield Up, Death Ward makes you immortal for 15 seconds
play solo a lotBerserker or WarriorBoth take a beating and win HP back: Battle Cry heals, Crimson Surge drains with every hit
support a partyBerserker, later MageWith perks, Battle Cry raises party damage; the Mage’s Vitality Staff heals allies but is still locked in Early Access
fight from rangeRanger or MageLongbow with Aimed Shot up to 30 m, Elemental Staff with area damage
mix melee and rangedRanger or MageBoth carry one ranged and one melee weapon

In June’s focus group test the Mage was the most popular class, ahead of Ranger, Warrior and Berserker. That shows what people like to play – not what is strongest.

Solo: take hits, heal yourself

According to XLGAMES, every core activity and dungeon can be played solo or in a party. Alone, what matters most is how much you can take. The Berserker starts with the highest Constitution and Endurance, blocks frontal attacks with Shield Up and turns immortal for 15 seconds with Death Ward (300-second cooldown). The Warrior is solid with Constitution 17. With the Longsword he wins HP back through Crimson Surge; with the Greatsword, Brace grants a shield that scales with max HP.

Ranger (Constitution 8) and Mage (Constitution 6) are more fragile. They live off distance: the Ranger counters with Crescent Kick and wins back room, the Mage blocks with the Wavesword’s Ice Crystal and gains a shield.

Groups and raids: who makes the others stronger

The eight dungeons in Early Access are built for parties of up to four, the three raids – Crimson Rift, Gylden Throne and Nakisian Temple – for 8 to 12 players. The U key opens the raid window with raid matchmaking. Every dungeon and raid with levels and bosses is in our dungeon guide. In Early Access, real support comes mainly from the Berserker: Battle Cry heals, the Rally perk raises nearby party members’ damage for 12 seconds, and Rousing Call lowers their Burn, Freeze and Shock gauges.

More support depends on the third weapons, which are still locked in Early Access. According to XLGAMES they arrive class by class, starting with the Warrior’s Gladius in the December update:

  • Mage with the Vitality Staff: the only true healer. Essence Orb and Lunar Flare heal allies, Aura of Life heals the party, and with perks Lunar Flare removes debuffs.
  • Berserker with the Greatshield: shields for allies, party healing and an aura for more defense.
  • Warrior with the Gladius: more critical hits and temporary HP for the party.

XLGAMES has not said when the Vitality Staff and Greatshield arrive. The combat team also plans to look at the party aggro system.

PvP: no clear pick yet

PvP runs on separate Conflict Channels and is off on Peace Channels. You enter a Conflict Channel through a Nui statue, and afterwards you cannot return to a Peace Channel for a certain time. Monsters there grant bonus EXP. More on this in the game guide on Conflict Channels. XLGAMES has not shared a breakdown by class so far. One thing matters for your choice: ranged attacks can be parried and reflected back at the attacker. Pure ranged play is no free pass. If you like countering, the Warrior’s Parry and the Ranger’s Crescent Kick give you the tools.

Beginners: forgiving or timing-heavy?

  • Easiest: Berserker. High Constitution, a block and a charge with reduced damage taken forgive mistakes.
  • Demanding but direct: Warrior with the Longsword. He rewards clean parries with counters.
  • Needs more awareness: Ranger and Mage. Both have to keep their distance and cannot take much.

Warrior: timing on the front line

A front-line melee fighter with Longsword and Greatsword. The Longsword plays on parries and counters or on the Path of Blood, the Greatsword on Resolve and heavy blows. In Early Access the Longsword tree has five new stat perks, including +10% Physical ATK of the weapon. Starting values Strength 29 and Constitution 17, weight limit 26. The December update brings the female Warrior and the Gladius as a third weapon.

Pick it if you like standing in front and landing parries on the beat. Warrior class page · Warrior build planner

Ranger: you set the distance

A hunter for ranged and melee with Longbow and Hatchet. The Longbow marks and finishes from afar, the Hatchet fights fast with lightning. Lightning Rush charges forward and briefly evades attacks on the way. In Early Access Fire Arrow (60-second cooldown) and Scarlet Arrow (20 seconds) are skills with their own cooldowns, and the Hatchet gains five new stat perks. Starting values Agility 27 and Talent 17, weight limit 18.6. The third weapon is the Crossbow.

Pick it if you want to stay flexible and switch between melee and ranged. Our editorial build Storm Hatchet shows a finished setup. Ranger class page · Ranger build planner

Berserker: take the hits, break the line

A melee line breaker with Axe with Shield and Warhammer. According to XLGAMES he is the first to charge into battle and strengthens allies with his war cry. Axe with Shield brings a block, a chain to pull enemies in and a charge; the Warhammer brings fire and thunder. In Early Access the Warhammer hits much harder but costs more SP, and with Evasive Assault it gains an attack straight out of an evade. Starting values Constitution 26 and Endurance 25, and at 31.3 the highest weight limit. The third weapon is the Greatshield.

Pick it if you want to be in the thick of it and prefer a class that forgives mistakes. Berserker class page · Berserker build planner

Mage: charge up, then unleash

An elemental caster for ranged and melee with Elemental Staff and Wavesword. The staff charges fire and lightning spells and holds them for later with Retain. The Wavesword fights with ice and energy blades, and many of its skills reduce damage taken. In Early Access it scales more on Magic ATK, and the Elemental Staff gains five new stat perks. Starting values Intelligence 30 and Talent 20, but only Constitution 6 and a weight limit of 16.4. The third weapon is the Vitality Staff for healing.

How to decide

XLGAMES has not said whether you can change class later. For now every class is locked to one gender. That changes class by class, starting with the female Warrior in December. So pick the class whose combat style will still hook you after many hours.

This guide reflects Early Access as it launched in November 2026. If XLGAMES changes the balance, we will update it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best class in ArcheAge Chronicles?

There is no fixed ranking yet, as balance keeps changing in Early Access. For beginners we recommend the Berserker; the Mage was the most popular class in the focus group test.

Which class is best for solo play?

Berserker and Warrior. Both take a lot of damage and win HP back – the Berserker with Battle Cry, the Warrior with Crimson Surge.

Which class can heal?

The true healer is the Mage with the Vitality Staff, the third weapon. It is still locked in Early Access and arrives with a later update. Until then the Berserker heals with Battle Cry.

Is there an ArcheAge Chronicles tier list yet?

Not a reliable one. While XLGAMES is still tuning the balance, we sort the classes by playstyle rather than rank.
