What the trailer shows

Rockstar sums up the story the same way as before: an easy score goes wrong, and Jason and Lucia end up “on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America”, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across Leonida. The trailer tells it in quick cuts:

GTA 6: aerial view of the Leonida Keys with a bridge, islands and a seaplane
The launch trailer opens on the Leonida Keys.
  • The opening in the Keys: over a boat yard with a “Brian’s Marina” sign we hear “Didn’t leave on the best of terms.” Then a phone call: “This is a free call from Lucia Caminos.” Lucia is apparently calling from prison. The marina likely belongs to Brian Heder, who runs a boat yard in the Keys and lets Jason live at one of his properties.
  • Vice City by day and night: the skyline at sunset, Jason and Lucia in a convertible, a green supercar at an Ocean Beach intersection, a biplane trailing pink smoke over a packed beach and a dirt bike next to the elevated rail line.
  • Heists and shootouts: an armed team with night-vision goggles wading through the mangroves, two people stepping into a blown-open bank vault, a helicopter smashing into the glass façade of a high-rise, assault rifles on an open street next to a burning car.
  • Leonida beyond the city: an airboat in the swamp, an iguana on the road, a sheriff’s vehicle in the woods at night.
  • Jason and Lucia: a shower scene, a rooftop at night where the two lean on a kneeling man, and an embrace on a balcony. “Are we gonna be okay?” – “Just gotta get through it.”

One shot in the shower shows an ankle with a band that looks like an electronic monitor – fitting Lucia’s time in prison. Rockstar has not confirmed that. New to the cast? Here are all characters in GTA 6.

The song: “Flower in a Hurricane” by Justice

The trailer is set to “Flower in a Hurricane”, a new single by French electronic duo Justice featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. With the trailer, Rockstar confirmed that Justice composed GTA VI’s original score. The song is also on “Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album”, the official soundtrack album with 34 new tracks arriving November 19. An official score album has been announced as well.
