Dates and how to join
The Public Test Realm for Season 16 is open from October 27, 10:00 a.m. PDT, to November 3, 10:00 a.m. PST. You join through the Battle.net app by picking the Public Test Realm game version and creating a new character; Seasonal features need a Seasonal character. PC Game Pass players can join via Battle.net as well. For a first look at the class changes, see the full breakdown on d4guides.gg.
Some features from the Season of Hell's Legacy will carry into Season 16 but are not part of this PTR; Blizzard plans to share which ones next week.
War Plans: Tactics and Tyrael's Boons
War Plans Tactics lets you steer which activities and rewards your War Plans offer. Completing activities earns points for nodes: up to 3 points per activity raise its chance to appear, and a point in Helltides or Nightmare Dungeons also unlocks a choice for Greater Helltides or Escalation Dungeons. Reward nodes cover armor, weapons, jewelry, Obducite, gems, gold, activity keys, Talisman items and Horadric Cube materials. It works in both Seasonal and Eternal Realms.

Respeccing now costs Marks of Wisdom instead of gold (capped at 20 on the PTR). The new seasonal tree, Tyrael's Boons, offers up to 132 points across four paths:
- Curious Addition: improves the Purveyor of Curiosities, optionally pricier but with better odds for Ancestrals.
- Merchant of Mystery: a new Torment merchant sells caches for Forgotten Souls.
- Scent of Gold: more gold, experience, cube materials and gems.
- Trash for Treasure: cheaper transmuting, more Obducite and the new Greater Temper cube recipe that upgrades a tempered affix to a Greater Affix.
Tyrael's Boons does not replace Seasonal Blessings, which become a fixed set of five. It does not require the Lord of Hatred expansion, and refunding points costs 5,000,000 gold each. Our sister site explains the current system in its War Plans guide on d4guides.gg.

Horadric Items and a dual Reaper threat
Horadric Items are Legendaries that tie directly into Talisman sets. Jewelry with a Horadric affix counts as an extra piece of a specific set, so a single charm can activate the 2-piece bonus. Armor and weapons with Horadric affixes add effects such as skill ranks or bonus damage while at least a 2-piece bonus of that set is active.

The Corrupted Reaper from the Season of Death Awakening gets backup: the Fractured Reaper joins the fight, and their abilities combine.

Classes and other changes
The patch notes for the October 27 PTR build touch all nine classes. For the Druid, Nature Magic and Shapeshifting tags now come only from the base skill, not from upgrades or variants. For the Barbarian, Double Swing damage per swing doubles from 75% to 150%. General changes include:
- Helltides start on the hour in base game zones and on the half hour in expansion zones, so one is always active in the base game. Aberrant Cinders no longer reset between Helltides.
- Mounts are faster by default, while spurring adds less.
- Area damage over time now benefits from Damage Over Time Duration bonuses.
Builds for every class are collected in the d4guides.gg build overview.
