Birth of a Free City

"Birth of a Free City" – email from Cyberpunk 2077.

Text

In the early 2070s, shortly after the NUSA withdrew its forces from North California, the Free States – with the exception of the Republic of Texas – signed the treaty that would put an end to the Unification War and reintroduce their participation in the federal government while retaining a high degree of autonomy. Yet, Texas was not the lone exception; the terms also established the formal designation of Night City as an independent, free city that would not fall under the legal jurisdiction of Washington D.C. nor Sacramento.
In the city elections following the treaty's signing, Lucius Rhyne was sworn in as mayor and made it his first order of business to award the Arasaka Corporation with a seat on the Night City Council. For the first time since 2023, Arasaka would once again have operational offices on Night City soil. The construction of a new headquarters began immediately at the same location where the iconic Arasaka Tower stood in Corporate Plaza so many decades ago. It was the dawn of a new order.
