Entry
Officially, very little is known about Project Cynosure. Unofficially? Even less. Putting together the scraps of available information, flimsy hypotheses and conspiracy theories, Project "Cynosure" appears to be Militech's prematurely terminated, secret military research project.
"Project Cynosure" was Militech's attempt in the second decade of the 21st century to develop an experimental weapon, or tool, to support Militech netrunners venturing into the deepest regions of cyberspace to capture and tame so-called "rogue AIs." These AIs were then to be used in a secret facility located somewhere beneath Pacifica. To what end? Most likely to enhance Militech's military and intelligence capabilities, or perhaps for something even more serious: a competitor to Soulkiller, Arasaka's flagship cyber-weapon.
Had Militech succeeded, it is likely that the geopolitical landscape in the region, and perhaps the entire world, would look very different. Yet for reasons unknown, the creation of the anti-Soulkiller never happened. According to rumors, Project Cynosure was canceled and buried. Some speculate that a series of accidents occurred in the project's laboratories. Others that the Militech-captured AIs broke free from their shackles and took control of the facility. Still other theories suggest that Arasaka or the cyberspace watchdog, NetWatch, caught wind of the project's existence, forcing Militech to cover its tracks to avoid a diplomatic crisis or even war. What's certain is that the truth will likely never be known.
