Entry
A “burn out” occurs when the drive wheels spin faster than the vehicle is moving, causing the tires to melt and smoke, but Burn Out Mode can do so much more. Try engaging it at medium and lower speeds and applying different levels of input. To get the most out of Burn Out Mode, we recommend driving with a controller rather than a keyboard. Analog triggers and sticks allow you to gradually or partially apply the brake and gas, which is crucial for some of these maneuvers.
To engage Burn Out Mode, press and hold Brake and Accelerate simultaneously either while stopped or moving at lower speeds. Your drive wheels will start to burn out, while the opposite wheels brake, keeping the vehicle mostly in place (technically, this is a Brake Stand).
Turning Around in Tight Spaces
Car stuck in a narrow, dead-end alleyway? Engage Burn Out Mode and begin steering to rotate your vehicle on the spot!
Tire Temperature and High-Grip Boost
Spinning your tires builds heat, and heat improves their traction. Once you’ve got your tires good ‘n’ hot, release the brake to launch your vehicle with a drag-race-like High-Grip Boost. Note: Tire temperature only affects the grip of the tires during launch.
Stunting, Drifting, Donuts, Rolling Brake Stands and More!
With Burn Out Mode engaged from a stop, slowly release the brake to perform a rolling brake stand. You can steer at the same time to rotate the vehicle and smoke the tires.
To drift, you can either apply the Handbrake during a turn or by engaging Burn Out Mode when entering a corner at lower speeds. Practice enough and you can pull off donuts, learn to drift in a circle or just quickly change direction. You could even trigger a High-Grip Boost then and take off like a shot. This mode isn’t just for fun – it can also bail you out when things get hot and you need a slick getaway!
Front-Wheel Drive Vehicles
Burn Out Mode can be engaged with this vehicle type, but the ability to perform some maneuvers is limited compared to vehicles with other drivetrain configurations.
All-Wheel Drive Vehicles
These vehicles use on-board computers that determine how much power goes to the front or rear wheels. When Burn Out Mode is engaged, the computers kill power to the front wheels, causing the vehicle to behave as if it’s rear-wheel drive. The same effect happens when a Handbrake is used.
Heavy-Duty Vehicles
Burn Out Mode can technically be activated for any vehicle, but some of the largest, slowest vehicles can never get their wheels spinning fast enough to have any real effect.
Keyboard Limitations – WASD and Arrow Key Bindings
If you are using a keyboard to drive (again, a controller is recommended), please note that many keyboards do not register more than 2 keys pressed at the same time if located near each other. For example, if you engage Burn Out Mode by holding the W and S keys, the A and D keys may not work. This is why we have the arrow keys simultaneously bound for driving controls. You can work around the aforementioned problem by activating Burn Out Mode with the W and S keys and using the left and right arrow keys to steer.
