One week to play
XLGAMES is opening ArcheAge Chronicles to everyone for the first time: a demo runs for one week during Steam Next Fest, from October 19 at 10 AM Pacific to October 26 at 10 AM Pacific.
Until now, few people got their hands on the game: a small focus group test with 165 testers in June and a six-hour network test on September 12 that was limited to players in the US and Canada. The demo is the first chance for everyone else to play it.
What is in the demo
The demo centers on Diamond Shores, one of the game’s early regions. It builds on the network test and, according to XLGAMES, adds a new dungeon.
All four classes are playable, each with both of their weapons:
- Warrior with longsword and greatsword – the front line, parries and heavy blows
- Ranger with hatchet and longbow – lightning melee or the hunt from range
- Berserker with axe and shield or warhammer – breaking lines and absorbing hits
- Mage with Elemental Staff and Wavesword – fire, lightning and ice
All 40 skills revealed so far, with descriptions, are on our ArcheAge Chronicles classes page. In the focus group test, the Mage was the most popular class, ahead of Ranger, Warrior and Berserker.
PvP for the first time
The demo is the first public build with PvP. Here is how it works:
- PvP runs on separate PvP channels that are open from the start. Nobody can attack you on normal channels.
- You switch channels at a Nui Statue.
- On PvP channels, anyone outside your party or guild can attack you.
- There is a kill log and PvP achievements, but no rewards for kills.
According to Creative Director Jay Lee, PvP channels will give 10 to 15 percent bonus EXP from monsters in the finished game. Trade runs through PvP channels and guilds fighting over trade posts are being considered – but explicitly “not a promise” yet.
What is missing
If housing and trade are what draw you to ArcheAge, you will have to wait: neither is included in the demo, along with some other life content. Your demo progress also does not carry over to Early Access.
On language: according to Steam, interface and subtitles are available in English, Korean and Chinese; full audio is Korean only.
Will it run on my PC?
The requirements are steep. XLGAMES lists a minimum of Windows 10 (64-bit), a Core i5-12400 or Ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB RAM and a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. Recommended are Windows 11, a Core i7-12700 or Ryzen 7 5700X, 32 GB RAM and an RTX 4060 Ti, plus 100 GB of storage. No AMD graphics card is listed so far. All values are on our release, demo and system requirements page.
What comes next: Early Access
There is no launch date yet. XLGAMES plans Early Access on Steam “later this year” as the next step. Since September, the studio self-publishes the game; Kakao Games was the publisher before.
On the business model, XLGAMES has committed: ArcheAge Chronicles will be buy-to-play, with no in-game store at Early Access launch. Pay-to-win was “never part of our vision” and will not be, says Executive Producer Yongjin Ham. Optional purchases for content, customization and convenience may come later – announced in advance. The price has not been announced.
Everything else we know about Auroria, combat, housing and trade is on our world & systems page.
