Architect. Idealist. Visionary. Richard Night believed he could build a paradise of steel and glass. Born in Pasadena to Caltech researchers, he grew up chasing perfection in both design and ambition. After making his fortune pioneering rapid construction techniques, he turned his back on the collapsing world and set out to create a city immune to society's pitfalls and chaotic tendencies – a haven where corporations, not governments, would shape destiny.
That vision would become Coronado City (later renamed Night City) – an engineered utopia for the wealthy and intrepid. But progress attracts covetous predators. When Night cut out the mob from lucrative contracts and pushed for a crime-free metropolis, his dream turned into a personal nightmare. In 1998, at just 44, a single bullet ended his life. But the myth of Richard Night lived on.
Night’s legacy is reflected in every shining tower. Fragments of his vision still echo in the city's monuments and gutters alike. Though the city adopted his name, it twisted and sold his dream a thousand times over. For most Night Citizens, living in “paradise” comes with a hefty price tag attached.
